What's been planned for the regeneration of Clay Cross?
Clay Cross has a long and proud heritage in North East Derbyshire – and it’s on this legacy we want to build a Clay Cross for the future.
A thriving town centre, improved transport facilities, more affordable homes for local people and first-class civic amenities are among the long-term ambitions for the town.
Following consultation with our partners and representatives from your community, a range of exciting ideas for how we can achieve this have now been brought together in the ‘Clay Cross Regeneration Framework’ - a draft plan which we want to hear your views on.
The various elements of this are outlined on the following pages, and will also be the focus of a series of public consultation sessions being held in June (see our News and Events page for more details).
Broadly speaking, the framework focuses on five ‘action areas’ across the town:
- The Town Centre (1)
- The Civic & Amenity Centre (2)
- The Bridge Street (3)
- The Parks (4)
The fifth area is the former Biwater site, now renamed Silkston, where plans to build homes, new recreational facilities, improved road links and high quality business premises are already well advanced.
This framework supports the wider vision to regenerate Clay Cross. This exciting new era which has already begun - with the new Sharley Park Community Primary School, and the St Barnabas Community Centre in Danesmoor now up and running.
Significant progress has also been made towards a new Tesco supermarket for Clay Cross, together with affordable homes, a new road link, a health centre and new retail units.
Your views are key to this continued progress, and we urge you to make sure you have your say in the future of your community - by completing our online Questionnaire, by attending one of the Consultation Sessions, by expressing your views in our Speaker's Corner - or all three!
Take a look at the Your Town, Your Say section for full details of how you can get involved with the regeneration plans.
