Common Themes for Clay Cross

Making sure all future developments in Clay Cross fit together and complement each other is a key aim of the regeneration framework.

To achieve this, it contains a number of important common themes which cut across all of the action areas outlined in the plan.  These are:

Movement

Cyclist in the countryside.

This concerns transport links and pedestrian routes.

Improved road networks to tackle congestion in the town centre, providing good access to the major development sites and creating a pedestrian-friendly environment that links the town together are key aims of the regeneration framework.

Public Realm

Clay Cross Church.

This is a term used to describe all public environments for example, streets, town squares, gardens and parks.

Improvements to lighting, paving, street furniture such as bins, and seating are needed across the town.  Creating public spaces within the town centre – where people can meet and children can play – is also proposed. New greenery will be introduced where the opportunity exists.

Public Art

Often controversial, but public works of art have an important role to play in defining towns, and enhancing their image.

In Clay Cross, this could help celebrate the town’s heritage and aspirations for the future.

Residential Development

Stevenson Cottages, Clay Cross.

Clay Cross needs better, more affordable housing and a wider choice of property type to encourage people to stay in the town and attract new residents.

There are many potential sites for this across the town.
